The huge camphor trees lining the slope to the gate were ravaged by the exposion of the atomic bomb at 11:02 a.m.,August 9,1945.
But two new trees sprouted from the sides of one of the
orginal stumps and are now lush with greenery.These trees are loved by generations
of children ascending Peace Slope on their way to school.
