平和祈念像
Prayer Monument for Peace

　被爆10周年に建てられた男神像で高さ10メートル。

　　　　　制作者：北村西望（きたむらせいぼう）
　　　　　　この像は神の愛と仏の慈悲とを象徴。

　上方を指す右手は原爆の脅威を、水平にのばした左手は平和を、軽く閉じたまぶたは死者たちの冥福を祈る気持ちを、表している。

　毎年8月9日になると、この像の前で盛大な平和記念式典が行われる。

On August 9,1955,Nagasaki citizens erected this 9.7m tall bronze peace statue.
Symbolizing a universal prayer for world peace and for the consolation of war victims.
The statue was created by Nagasaki-born Seibo Kitamura.
The statue's right hand,pointing upwards symbolizes the threat of the atomic bomb;the left hand stretching horizontally symbolizes peace and the lightly closed eyelids convey the idea of an ardent prayer for the souls of the war dead.
