At the side of a river flowing near by the Urakami cathedral,a
belfry dome shows its figure buried half. This belfry dome was blew off
as far as the bank 35 meters apart, although it wa 5.5 meters in diameter
and 50 tons in weight.
This just shows us the strong power of A-bomb blast.
There is a line of life-size stone statues of Christian
saints along one side of the flont approach to the Urakami Cathedral.
All of them were scorched blackish by the heat rays of the A-bomb.
Some stand without their heads, others with their noses or arms torn off
by the ferocious blast.
We cannot now look at the mark of A-bomb explosion on the
Urakami cathedral which is already reconstructed splendidly. However,St
John' statue and Virgin Mary' statue disposed on the right and the left,
have been left as they were at that time. Both the statues exhibit such
mark of the explosion that their fingers were chopped off and their noses
were broken off.
Watching Virgin Mary's statue on the upper place, the left half of the statue
is burnt black. This just shows us the power of rays.
