A Monument to Streetcar Drivers Killed in The A-Bomb


This monument was built to mourn for over 110 dreivers, including mobilised students, of streetcar.
Exposed platform curbs and wheels from those days are laid on the plinth.

From inscription:
Right before the end of the war,Nagasaki,with a major shipyard and factories of ordance, was under continual severe bombing.
Many workers were mobilized for the war industry,making this city and its traffic packed.Nagasaki streetcars played the main role of transportation in the city.Many of the drivers and conducters were the mobilizeds school boys and girls.The moment the A bomb exploded over Nagasaki more than 110 of those teanaged workers died,holding the steering wheel or conductor's bag with so many other passengers.The number includes the youngest conductor,a 12 year-old girl.
