Monument to poet Sumako Fukuda


(Epitaph)

The first atomic bomb exploded iver Hirosima.The second atomic bomb exploded over Nagasaki at 11:02 a.m. August 9,1945 when World War 2 was coming to an end.In a instant about one hundred and fifty thousand of people were killed or wounded by the bomb.For thirty long years since that day the survivors of the bombing have endured hardships and have suffered from the after-effects of radiation diseases.
Sumako Fukuda was just one of such victims.Until she died,she never stopped writing about the atomic bomb and she never stopped describing its inhumanity.
This monument is erected by the contribution from 920 people all over the country in memory of her indomitable life and in hope for eternal world peace.
